EXLANATORY NOTE

to conceptual design of Yaroslavl 1000-years monument

1. Monument is situated on the river Arrow, along the axis of the city promenade and made in a form of a MONUMENTAL STAIR, opening descent to the river.

2. Stair is cut in the historical hill, walls of its slopes - ARCHEOLOGICAL CHRONICLE of the city.

3. Stair opens a (bell) recess in the ground, the center of which contains sculptural composition «Yaroslav» and it is a KERNEL of the monumental stair space.

The recess makes up a frame for the monument, preventing it from getting lost in the mighty panorama, opening from Volga.

THUS: 

By moving the monument to the river and  mounting it on the bank slope pedestal:

We make it a part of the city panorama.

We open it not only for the citizens but for those people who observe the city from the riverside too.

We set up natural stalls for spectators on high days and holidays.

By combining the monument and stair we:

Obtain MONUMENTAL SPACE, filled with people.

Organize PARADE APPROACH to the temple.

Tie together the temple and monument in the united architectural ENSEMBLE.
